Rationalise management jobs

The council should rationalise management jobs, cutting management pay and making people responsible for their own work, at the moment there are far too many managers who are paid far too much. It is inconceivable that while BCC it talking about drastic cuts as of today there is an advert for an "Assistant Director" on 75K, a "Principal" on 75K, and unspecified number of "Team Managers" on 41-51K, a "Family Group Manager" on 41-51K. The average Council Tax payer earns far less than any of these people and should not be expected to subsidise their lavish lifestyle.

Why the contribution is important

Money should be well spent. A rationalisation of management structure would provide huge savings which could in turn provide much needed vital services.

    I agree, partly.
You'll always need to pay competitive wages for top quality managers, but it so often seems that the people employed by BCC are not top quality.

Of course FayeWS, you could apply for the jobs you mention ;-)

Most of the jobs FayeWS lists look like they are in children's social work. Personally I think these need the best people and the pay doesn't seem unreasonable given the stress and responsibility these senior social workers have.

There's also a big problem with recruitment of senior experience social workers nationally (and esp in West Midlands), so if Brum paid below the going rate they wouldn't get the applicants they need to protect children who are in risky situations.

I am tired of hearing people claim that we need to pay such inflated salaries because we "need the best people". Given the track record of current management it is obvious that paying such large amounts does not get the best people for the actual job, but simply the most greedy and those most capable of climbing up the career ladder at whatever cost. We need people who are committed, not people who are in it just for the money.
