Fast food outlets - Introduce waste separation for recycling

All the fast food outlets that I have visited in Birmingham have one waste bin for customers to empty the contents of their trays.

Whilst this makes it easy for customers to dispose of the packaging & waste from the trays, I am not sure whether this is then sorted into recyclable and land fill elsewhere. In other European countries, same multinational chains have separate bins.

Some of the stuff is clearly recyclable. The coffee and soft drinks containers are on the whole of good quality cardboard.

Why the contribution is important

1) It educates children from a very young age about the importance of recycling. These outlets have a very large captive audience of young children, If the bins are clearly marked with colourful posters of which of the used food packaging goes into which colour bin, it can be very educational and instill the ethos of recycling.

2) Potentially reduce the amount going to land fill, assuming all these waste bags of rubbish are not sorted elsewhere.
